Story: that one bug

February 12, 2012

___

.

A zen monk walked behind a zen master down a mountain path. The master picked up a small insect and placed it in the grass.

“Why did you save that one bug when you may have crushed many you did not see?” the monk asked.

“I did not save the bug,” the master replied. “I saved myself. It is not the saving of the bug that counts, it is the attention given to any action.”

From that day on, the monk walked in a different way, saving himself every now and then.

“The attention given to any action”. Being mindful takes on a whole new meaning for me here. Thank you.
